The New Abbe Refractometer Model R-8 is a compact and user-friendly measuring instrument designed for accurate and efficient refractive index measurements. One of its distinctive features is the rigid measuring prism with a horizontal sample surface, which prevents test liquids from flowing off the prism during measurement—an advantage not commonly available in other indigenous Abbe refractometers.

The prism box is manufactured from stainless steel, allowing highly corrosive materials to be tested without causing damage to the instrument. The boundary line of total reflection can be focused within the same field of view in which the readings are taken, ensuring convenience and precision. Since both setting and reading operations are performed through a single eyepiece, the instrument offers ease of operation and improved efficiency for the user.

The graduated arc scale, made of glass, is safely enclosed within the instrument along with all optical components, providing protection against mechanical, thermal, and chemical damage. Its compact and robust design ensures full utilization of its optical performance while safeguarding delicate internal parts.

For applications requiring highly accurate measurements, the prism mounts are equipped with provisions for circulating temperature-controlled fluid. When connected to a thermostatically controlled circulating bath, the instrument maintains a constant temperature throughout operation, thereby improving measurement accuracy and reliability.
